Overview
This is not the first live album of Joe
Barbieri. Or at least, not only.
This is a group photo.
“Maison maravilha”, a gift by the Neapolitan
singer-songwriter dated just one year ago,
took life and day by day got rich of people,
longings, desires. Anyone who has chosen to
abide it, brought its own belongings, most
desired things, most vivid memories, most
burning disillusions.
And its own voice.
In Maison Maravilha, that enchanted Europe
and broke distant borders – reaching Japan,
United States and up to 20.000 sold copies –
someone has gently switched on the light,
some other has warmed up the rooms: the
presence of all the people at every latitude
has fulfilled this home and has changed a
mere album into something pulsing. Alive, as
the title of this new album suggests.
In the last lucky year, “Maison Maravilha”
has been followed by awards, goals, smiles,
photos, publications, meetings, kilometres,
little spells. And live shows.
Among the lasts, the one performed the 9th
of January at Auditorium Parco della Musica
in Rome, in which the intimacy, expectation
and enthusiasm that always characterize the
concerts of Barbieri, has more than ever
imbued everything, every face, every song.
A concert enriched by the presence of Mario
Venuti, a dear friend, for the song “Pura
ambra” (recorded by the two artists for the
album “In Parole Povere”), by the state of
grace of the musicians (Antonio Fresa at the
piano, Giacomo Pedicini at the double-bass,
Stefano Jorio at the cello and Sergio di
Natale playng the drums) and mostly by the
“calor bianco” of almost 400 people that,
overcrowding the Teatro Studio, have sung,
lived and breathed as one body. “Maison
Maravilha Viva” is a passing of the torch”,
says Joe, “through this album I put my music
in trusted hands. I personally know many of
the people who got it, I meet them, some of
them face long distance travels to cuddle us
after a concert. They are ideal lovers:
perfect. And this album is more theirs than
mine”.
“Maison Maravilha Viva” (out now in
CD+DVD,
produced by Microcosmo Dischi) is the
evidence of these cuddles, of this passing
of torch, of that unique evening, of that
concert.
And now maybe it is easier to understand why
this is not the first live album by Joe
Barbieri. Or at least, not only. But it’s a
group photo: a secret shot to keep in our
mind for the forthcoming years.
