the kantango
ensamble invites you to make an unusual journey that could not easily be conceived by a travel agency.
in music, neither distances nor boundaries really matter. however, distances and boundaries create a kind of diversity, which in turn spawns extraordinary paths of incredible discoveries.
in kantango's first album titled “másidiomás”, the ensemble proposes to blend different musical languages, as the title mas idiomas suggests. másidiomás tells the story of how four musicians, who come from different musical backgrounds, encounter the tango music.
with these musicians' diverse backgrounds, the album could have been a babel of sounds. however, instead of simply reproducing the sound of the great south american tango performers, kantango has distilled their tango with their own european vision.
kantango pays tribute to flamenco, portugese fado and neapolitan song through the melodic tones of the violin and accordion, strong rhythmic pace on the piano and the upright bass, and even through the experiments with electronic sounds. furthermore, the performance of the two soloist singers – joe barbieri, whose warm timbre has a particular story-telling ability, and a spanish singer maria berasarte, who has integrated neapolitan song and dialect into her style – is a unique treasure that brings together these various european musical languages in kantango's musical exploration.
at the end of this imaginary journey through the sounds and colors of buenos aires, naples, tirana, bilbao and lisbon, you will see clearly the reason for the success of “másidiomás”…
starting in italy and now around the world.
