as a painter that paints the sea with the sea’s water - obtaining pictures
just more than completely white - joe barbieri sings the air with the air, the absence with the absence, the empty space with the empty space.
unperfect guitarist; singer who seems to explain to you, whispering directly to your ear, all the small variations of the human
soul; delicious singer, meticulous songwriter talking minimal and evanescents
things: all this is joe barbieri.
after having collaborated with pino daniele, giorgia and patrizia laquidara, barbieri releases at the end of 2004 – for tis own indie label – a debut album that conquered the audience of every country where it’s been published (usa, canada, japan, austria, switzerland, china, germany – where it got the honour of ‘album of the year’ – and, obviously, italy). the cd, titled “in parole povere”, its been enpowered by many music stars and by a duet with the singer/songwriter mario venuti (in the song named ‘pura ambra’).
as a producer joe barbieri worked on kantango, releasing their first album (a second cd is work in progress) and collaborating with jazz and world music stars as – among other – lura, richard galliano and susana baca.
in the beginning of 2009 joe barbieri came back home with a brend new album titled “maison maravilha”: 11
enchanting new songs, wrapped by an overwhelming strings orchestra and the special featuring of the cuban omara portuondo on a fado titled “malegría”, that appears to want to become a ‘classic’.
“maison maravilha” has been released over 12 countries and has
sold more than 20.000 copies.
to celebrate this, barbieri just gave us another gem: an ep called
"lacrime di coccodrillo" including a duet with his
colleague chiara civello and two extra songs.
